Asphalt Shorts II
On Friday October 15, CITY|SPACE presented its second installment of Asphalt Shorts, the outdoor festival of short films that explore the urban experience. Showcasing 11 films including new work from local filmmakers as well as archival material from the Prelinger Archives — www.archive.org/movies/prelinger.php, Asphalt Shorts II presented the city in all its glory, chaos and pathos. From a quiet atmospherics of San Francisco's N-Judah light rail, to the dangerous prescriptions of mid-century redevelopment specialists, Asphalt Shorts was an entertaining and insightful ride through the changing city.
As with the previous year, the films were screened outdoors and free of charge in downtown Oakland. With over 200 attendees on what was a chilly fall evening, this pocket of downtown Oakland came alive with people, music and film. As with all our events Asphalt Shorts II served to both entertain and engage audience and to enliven the surrounding city.
